About
I've spent more than two decades in and around financial markets. I started out on the trading floor at ABN AMRO, then moved to the buy side at APG Asset Management, where I ran the currency trading book and traded derivatives across asset classes. From there I went to Goldman Sachs, where I worked on the Fixed Income, Currency & Commodities trading floor in London, before making the jump to training full-time.
These days I run Van Loon Financial Training & Consultancy, delivering training and consultancy on financial markets, derivatives and trading to banks, asset managers, trading firms and regulators around the world. Think Citadel, Bank of America, BNP Paribas, Brevan Howard, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Rokos Capital Management. The audiences range from graduate hires to board members, and that mix is a big part of where EduMarkets comes from.
So why EduMarkets? Two reasons.
I kept looking for practical, real-world learning tools I could point participants to (calculators, scenario builders, interactive explainers) and couldn't find anything that pulled it all together in one user-friendly place. Plenty of textbooks, plenty of dense platforms, nothing that felt built for how people actually learn this stuff.
Training courses are intense but short. Participants walk out with a lot of new concepts, and then… the real work of internalising it begins. I wanted to give people somewhere to go after the course: to revisit ideas, deepen their understanding, and practise with tools that behave like the ones on an actual trading desk.
EduMarkets is my answer to both.
The company
EduMarkets is built and operated by EduMarkets Technologies BV, a company based in the Netherlands. It's a sister company to Van Loon Financial Training & Consultancy BV (the training and consultancy business I've run for years), and the two work hand in hand: Van Loon FT&C delivers the live training, EduMarkets provides the platform participants use during and after those sessions. The platform is also available independently to training providers, universities, and institutional clients running their own programmes.
